Lake Hartwell State Park is located off I-85 at the SC/GA border.  It is a 56,000 acre lake.  There is fishing for striped and hybrid bass, largemouth, crappie, bream, catfish.

The Park offers basketball courts, public boat ramps and hiking.  There are a wide variety of camping sites.  For those without camping gear but want the camping experience, they offer single-room camper cabins.

Park hours:  sun up to sun down daily.

Admission:  $2 adults; $1.25 seniors; 15 and under free.

Boating at Lake Hartwell can be fun.  Check out these three islands, Andersonville Island, Broyles Party Island and Island at buoys S-53 and S-55.  Explore the ruins and wildlife at Andersonville Island near Portman Marina at buoys LC-1 – LBC 9 and S1 – S13.  Broyles Party Island is located near Broyles Recreation Area.  It is a fun place to hang out by boat.  Graves dating back to the 1700’s and 1800’s can by found at the highest point on the north side of the island at buoys S-53 and S-55.

On April 29, 2011,  the Corp of Engineers Lake Hartwell with the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association opened a 7.6 mile multi-purpose trail at Paynes Creek Campground Area. To read reviews of the trail, click on link. Pre-Fourth Extravaganza Craft Show June 30th starting at 10 AM, 

Bring the family to downtown Hartwell, GA for a day of fun.  There is a kid’s parade at 10 AM.  Enjoy the Craft Fair and food.  Free Parking

Big 50 Fireworks and Boat Parade

Enjoy Family Entertainment at Big Oaks Recreation area by Lake Hartwell Dam, 5625 Anderson Highway, Hartwell, Ga 30643.  Starting in the late afternoon there will be Kayak races and a Pre-Fourth boat parade.  The community band will start playing at 8 PM.  At 8:45 PM the fireworks will start.
